June 2009Mellow tides found us anchored in 200’ of water in one of my most reliable halibut fishing spots more than 20 miles from the harbor. We had hooked and released about eight smaller fish in our first 15 minutes of the charter when this monster grabbed the bait and ran! 20 minutes later, this 235 pound fish was in the boat. Fortunately for us, the lucky angler, David Moore from Gill, Colorado, had a derby ticket in his pocket. We raced back to derby HQ, and beat the current jackpot entry by 50 pounds. As of this writing, this fish is at the top of the leader board for the month of June and the entire derby to date! Way to go David! I take back 10% of the bad things I said about you for being late because you had to buy a derby ticket.
