Chrome Bay was named for the Chromite ore that was mined here briefly in the early 1900s. Reminders of the mine include this shaft entrance, ore cars, and other artifacts. We've done extensive research to learn more about the history of Chrome Bay, and we're very excited to share that knowledge with our guests.


Breathtaking view from our lodge and bath yurt platforms under construction, a perfect perch to view the diverse wildlife in the bay. You'll enjoy watching sea otters play, eagles soar at eye level, and black bears feed on the opposite hillside.

Chrome Bay is located in the heart of the best wildlife viewing and deep sea fishing that you can reach from Homer. In this idyllic environment, you will enjoy the luxury of semi-private accommodations in one of our four 16-foot diameter guest yurts, custom-built right here in Homer by Nomad Shelter. Inspired by the traditional design of the nomadic tribes of Mongolia, these sturdy shelters are extremely comfortable.
Our lodge was designed and built to have minimum impact on the environment, and blends the elements of breathtaking natural beauty, hearty meals, and warm Alaskan hospitality. This is an exclusive, off the grid, true wilderness experience, and we limit occupancy to a maximum of 6 guests at a time.

Each guest yurt sits on its own solid wooden platform and is set up for double occupancy living with roomy oversized cots, cozy foam pads, plush comforters, and warm propane heaters. Our comfortable bedding package was hand-selected to provide a level of comfort not usually found in such a remote wilderness lodge.

We have an incinerating toilet, and a limited supply of water for a hot shower in the bath yurt. The bath yurt is connected to our 20 foot diameter lodge yurt via an interior door as well as an outside entrance. Our roomy lodge yurt is where we gather to tell tall tales, relax with new friends, and enjoy satisfying meals.

Due to unpredictable weather, there is always a possibility of delays or cancellation, and we accept no liability for a late departure and/or return, or weather cancellation. Your travel plans should be flexible, and we strongly recommend trip insurance.
