Ask anyone familiar with Homer fishing where the best fishing accessible by boat can be found, and they will likely tell you “around the corner” or “down South”. What they mean by that is the extreme Southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula in the vicinity of the Chugach and Barren Islands. The down-side of this fantastic fishing location is the 2-3 hour trip it takes just to get there, a rushed few hours of fishing, followed by a very long boat ride home.
The alternative that some companies offer are overnight trips where clients fish, live, eat, and sleep on board the fishing vessel. Is a smelly bunk on a fishing boat really where you want to spend a night or two with your wife, kids, and friends? While this may be okay for some, our experience has shown that most of our clients want both feet on dry land at the end of the fishing day.
What if you could overnight in a land-based lodge instead of a boat, within minutes of Homer’s best fishing instead of hours, designed and built to have minimum impact on the environment? What if this lodge combined the elements of breathtaking scenery, world-class fishing, hearty Alaskan meals, and warm Hawaiian hospitality? If this sounds inviting to you, then welcome to Chrome Bay Wilderness Lodge!
Chrome Bay is located in the heart of the best saltwater fishing that you can reach from Homer. In this idyllic environment, you will enjoy the luxury of semi-private accommodations in one of our three insulated, 16 foot diameter yurts, custom-built right here in Homer by
Nomad Shelter. Each guest yurt sits on its own solid wooden platform and is set up for double occupancy living with roomy oversized cots, cozy foam pads, plush comforters, and warm diesel heat stoves. We have a clean, odor-free, incinerating toilet, and a rain collection system that provides water for a hot shower in the bath yurt. Our 20 foot diameter lodge yurt is where we gather to tell tall tales, relax with new friends, and enjoy satisfying meals. A solar-powered electric game fence circles the encampment to keep our neighborhood bears at a safe distance.
This is an exclusive, off the grid, true wilderness experience with a maximum occupancy of 6 guests at a time. Listen to what one of our guests had to say:
“We are still talking about our great fishing adventure and probably will for years to come. We loved the dinghy ride to the yurts, our meal at Chrome Bay was great, the fishing was great, we just can't think of anything that we would change; it was charming. I just wanted to let you know that we had a great time!!. We are thinking about booking again next year and my sister has said the same.”---Harris party of three, 2009
